Rafa Benitez: Steven Gerrard Is Fit For Liverpool’s Game With Lyon, Fernando Torres Misses Out
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has confirmed this afternoon that Steven Gerrard is fit and available for selection for the Reds’ Champions League clash with Olympique Lyonnais tomorrow night.
“I think so. He has been training, so hopefully he will be available tomorrow,” the Spaniard told reporters at today’s press conference.
“It’s important. We have had some problems with injuries since the beginning of the season, so Gerrard fit is a big boost for us.”
There was less encouraging news though as far as striker Fernando Torres was concerned. The forward missed training today after picking up an adductor problem whilst on duty with the Spanish national team.
Benitez explained: “He is still not ready, so we have to wait a little bit. Hopefully [he’ll be fit] for the weekend, but not for this game.”
