San Marino 0-3 Slovenia: Slovenians Cruise Towards World Cup Play-Offs

Slovinia The visitors smashed four past the hapless hosts, to keep their world cup hopes alive.

Slovenia’s dreams of qualifying for their second ever World Cup are still alive, after they easily accounted for San Marino in their Group 3 clash at the Stadio Olimpico in Serravalle.

Following a fairly uninspiring opening 20 minutes to the fixture,
Milivoje Novakovic managed to open the scoring for the visitors, to ensure that they would go into the break with a narrow advantage.

Despite their dismal record in the campaign, the hosts had proven to be a tough nut to crack in front of their own fans, and the one goal lead after 45 minutes of play to the Slovenians suggested exactly that.

Nevertheless, the home side conceded yet again on 67 minutes, as
Dalibor Stevanovic put the result beyond doubt, and confirmed his side’s passage to the World Cup play-off phase of the competition.

With less than 10 minutes of play remaining, the AA Gent defender
Marko Suler put the icing on the cake, ensuring that the Slovenians took their tally of points to 20, to comfortably finish in second place in Group 3, just two points adrift of the winners Slovakia.
