Cristiano Ronaldo Out For Two Weeks At Least
Cristiano Ronaldo will return to Madrid on Sunday and miss Portugal’s last World Cup qualifier with Malta after aggravating an injury which could see him miss two weeks of action.
The Real Madrid star recovered from an ankle knock to play for his country against Hungary at the weekend, but was substituted after just 26 minutes.
Initial hopes saw talk of him making a swift return although further tests have now been ruled out as the Portuguese national national team medics recognise the blow is more serious than first thought.
Ronaldo was unable to play for Madrid against Sevilla last week after suffering the injury in the Champions League encounter with Marseille and there were doubts about his fitness ahead of the international games.
But he was said to have recovered and started the game against the Hungarians, which Portugal won 1-0 to keep their hopes of claiming a play-off place in Group One going.
The team will now take on Malta without their most famous name as Ronaldo has been summoned back to the Spanish capital to begin his recuperation programme with Los Merengues.
