Zambia 0-1 Egypt: Pharaohs Set Up Exciting Final Qualifier

Eygpt & Zambia

Egypt struggled to a 1-0 away win over Zambia, but the three points will be all they are concerned with as it brings them closer to a World Cup place.

Egypt continued their march towards an elusive World Cup spot, with a 1-0 win over Zambia allowing them to tie with Algeria at the top of Group 3, although their fellow North Africans still have a match in hand against Rwanda tomorrow evening.

The Egyptians had one goal in mind, to win, and one goal would prove to be enough for the Pharaohs, as Hosni Abd Rabou’s 69th minute strike broke the hearts of the home fans while giving hope to Egyptian fans around the globe.

Zambia were unfortunate not to have won the encounter after outplaying their visitors for big parts of the game, but it proved to be their own fault in the end as countless opportunities went begging and Rabou made use of Egypt’s only real chance of the encounter.

The win sets up an incredibly exciting finale in this group, with only the top of each of the five groups progressing to South Africa next year. Egypt will host Algeria in the last game of the qualifying round in November, and a mouthwatering encounter seems to be on the cards.

Egypt went to Zambia and did their duty, the rest will depend on tomorrow’s match between Algeria and Rwanda, as well as the final round of matches next month.

  1. The final match between Algeria and Egypt will be a mouthwatering one. All eyes will be on the two teams on the D day. These teams are know to be fiercely competitive, and they have met more than once to decide each other’s fate for the world cup and the African nations cup. Revenge will be on the plate as in 1989 Algeria did not qualify to the world cup finals as a result of a loss against Egypt. Rendez vous the 14th of November-It is a game worth watching!
