Nuno Gomes: It Would Be A Disappointment If Portugal Don’t Qualify For World Cup
The experienced Benfica forward admits that mistakes have been made, but is forceful that Portugal simply have to get over their previous errors in the coming days.
“It would be a huge disappointment if Portugal didn’t qualify for South Africa, not only for those players who have not been to a World Cup, but also for those who have, because these competitions represent a lot in the career of a player,” he explained to a press conference ahead of the upcoming match against Hungary.
“It would be extremely frustrating because this team is good enough to be at the World Cup, and to have finished first in the group. We have made some mistakes during the campaign, but we can’t stand around crying about the mistakes we made. We have to look ahead.
“I would have preferred the Denmark-Sweden game to be played simultaneously to ours. The fact we will know the result could provide extra motivation or could not. In any event, we have to win our match and then the game on Wednesday and see how it ends.”
The Portuguese still have a shot of qualification, but they face an anxious few days. Their qualification process is completed when they face Malta on October 14.
