Antonio Cassano Deserves A Place In The Italy Squad – Christian Panucci
The Azzurri squad isn’t big enough for all those that should be in it, according to the former Roma star.
Parma defender Christian Panucci has backed calls to include Sampdoria’s Antonio Cassano in the Italy setup, but added that there were many other players who could also stake a claim to an international place.
“The feeling I have is that there are lots of good players in Italy,” Panucci told the club’s official website.
“The coach has created a group of a high standard in which there are many internal balances to maintain.
“That said, I believe that Cassano, [Giampaolo] Pazzini and a lot of other players deserve a place in the national team. Unfortunately, not everyone can be picked.”
Panucci was then asked what advice he would give coach Marcello Lippi, but the former Roma defender laughed off the idea that Lippi needs his direction.
“Lippi is the last person in the world that I would give advice to,” he smiled. “If I was to be honest, I would like to see [Daniele] Galloppa in the Azzurri team, as well as [Massimo] Paci, who often plays at my side.”
