Young Players Lack Respect Nowadays – Italy Defender Nicola Legrottaglie

Nicola Legrottaglie Today Italy and Juventus defender Nicola Legrottaglie gave a press conference ahead of the Azzurri’s last two World Cup qualification matches against the Republic of Ireland and Cyprus.

One of the subjects was the lack of respect shown by today’s younger footballers.

“I see very young players who don’t respond to their coaches in an educated way, they lack respect,” he said.

“The thing that bothers me most about this is that it’s seen as a positive thing, ‘it means he has personality,’ they say. People have always taught me to have respect. When I was young I used to carry the bags of the more experienced players.”

On the example to follow, Legrottaglie said, “Alessandro Del Piero is the model to follow. During his entire career he’s never had a rude attitude, or problems with his temper.”

Italy can seal qualification to the World Cup in South Africa with a draw in Saturday’s match against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin.
