OFFICIAL: Napoli Sack Roberto Donadoni, Walter Mazzarri Appointed As Coach
Napoli have sacked Roberto Donadoni, and appointed Walter Mazzarri as his replacement, the club have announced.
A statement on the Partenopei’s official website reads:
“SSC Napoli would like to communicate that Roberto Donadoni has been relieved of his duties as first team coach. We have given the technical duties to Walter Mazzarri.
“The club would like to thank Donadoni for the work he undertook over the past seven months, and we want to wish him the very best for the future.”
Club president Aurelio De Laurentiis explained his decision briefly, suggesting a major reform was necessary to stop the club from imploding, as he brings about what he hopes will be meaningful change
“This decision was indispensable to give a new impulse to the season and to begin a new five year era.”
The coach is expected to be unveiled during a press conference tomorrow when they players return to training.
Napoli have not released details over Mazzarri’s terms, but reports around the peninsula indicate that he has signed a two year deal worth €1.5million per season.
De Laurentiis took swift action following the 2-1 loss to Roma on Sunday. Napoli have won just seven points in as many games.
