UEFA Reduce Fiorentina Striker Alberto Gilardino’s Champions League Ban
Gilardino initially received a two-game suspension after appearing to elbow Lyon’s Jeremy Toulalan in the 1-0 loss to Lyon last month. Fiorentina appealed, and they have been partly successful.
A statement on the club’s official website reads:
“Alberto Gilardino’s European suspension has been reduced to one match, and so he will be back to play in the Champions League on October 20 against Debrecen.
“Fiorentina had asked for a total reduction. Gilardino has already served his one-game ban against Liverpool.”
The decision will be welcomed in Florence as the team will be back to full strength, though ‘Gila’ was hardly missed against the Reds last week.
