Javier Zanetti Commends Inter Spirit After Rubin Kazan Draw

The Argentine was relieved to see the ten-man Nerazzurri come away from Russia with a hard-earned point.

Serie A giants Inter’s disappointing start to the Champions League continued yesterday when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Group F minnows Rubin Kazan.

The Beneamata were forced to chase the game inside 11 minutes, but got back on level terms through a diving Dejan Stankovic header.

However, teenage striker Mario Balotelli saw red in the second period and Inter were given a workout by the Russian champions who wasted a number of clear-cut chances to win it.

“Yes, we really made a big effort to not lose,” Nerazzurri captain Javier Zanetti sighed on
Mediaset Premium after the encounter.

“It’s true, we started off badly because our opponents took us by surprise right away with that goal after just 11 minutes. Then, we rallied and levelled the scores and faced the game in a better way.

“Unfortunately, Mario Balotelli was sent off in the second half and that was not what we needed.”

Inter now lie third in Group F standings and the upcoming back-to-back ties with Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kiev could prove crucial for their qualification to the next round.
