Peter Schmeichel: Kasper Not Ready For World Cup

Kasper Legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has written off his son Kasper’s chances of pushing for a spot in Denmark’s World Cup squad this summer.

Kasper, like his father a former Manchester City player, is now playing for Sven Goran Eriksson’s Notts County in League Two, and has been a regular in the Danish Under-21s, but Schmeichel senior has rejected speculation that he could make a late push for South Africa 2010.

“The national team is not a topic at the moment. And it shouldn’t be either,” the Manchester United legend said, according to Sky Sports.

“On some occasions, it is every footballers dream to play for the national team, but if you don’t reach it, you always need to work harder to reach a higher level, a level you wouldn’t reach if you didn’t have this as a goal.”

Denmark sit top of UEFA Group 1 in World Cup qualifying, three points ahead of second-placed Sweden with two games remaining.
