Valverde Regrets Bad Start In Deportivo Defeat

valverde-ernesto-090602Villarreal coach Ernesto Valverde says his side didn’t start well and should have done better, following their 1-0 defeat to Deportivo La Coruna at the Riazor.

A lone Juca strike after just eight minutes was enough to condemn Villarreal to their third straight Primera Division defeat for the season, as Valverde’s men continue to languish in the relegation zone after five rounds of football.

“In the beginning, they were strong and well organised. We had a problem at the start. I think Depor had one chance apart from the goal and never dominated, whilst the second half was clearly ours,” Valverde said to AS afterwards.

The Yellow Submarine’s coach also said that his side were in control at times, but he rued their lack of clinical finishing, as they failed to take anything from the game.

He continued, “We played most of the second half of the game in their half, but we just couldn’t score.

“Deportivo started better, then the game was open for us to win it, but it wasn’t to be.”
