Theo: Please Let Me Play

theo-walcott-wengerTheo Walcott has told Arsene Wenger he is fit to start his season against Olympiakos tomorrow night at the Emirates.

The Arsenal and England whizkid, 20, has yet to play because of a lower back injury.

Gunners boss Wenger resisted temptation to field Walcott in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Fulham but admits it is getting hard to hold him back.

Wenger said: “He has a chance to be in the squad but not to be starting. He has played only 45 minutes since June.”

The Frenchman was furious with England Under-21 boss Stuart Pearce in the summer for calling up Walcott for the Euro 2009 finals, branding it ‘selfish’. Walcott also played for the senior side in the June World Cup qualifiers.

And the winger admits he would swap any trophies with Arsenal for winning the World Cup. He said: “I’d love to win a trophy with Arsenal this season but the World Cup is the big one for me this year. Hopefully the Arsenal fans won’t kill me for saying that!”
