Andrea Della Valle Steps Down As Fiorentina President
Andrea Della Valle has stepped down from his position of president at Fiorentina, the club have announced.
Speculation surrounding his post has been on-going for several weeks, and after a long discussion with the club’s board this morning, the Italian confirmed his decision to leave his position.
Despite his decision, Andrea and brother Diego remain the owners of the club. The club did not nominate a replacement, but vice-president Mario Cognigni steps up to take the vacant role.
A statement on the club’s official website reads:
“In the course of the board meeting that was held today, Andrea Della Valle revealed his decison to leave his post as president of the club.
“The functions of the presidency will now be handed over to Mario Cognigni. The board also evaluated the running of the club during the meeting.”
Despite Cognigni’s new responsibilities, Sky Sport Italia claim it will be temporary, and that a permanent replacement will be found in due course.
