Werder Bremen Without Mesut Oezil In DFB Pokal Fixture
Werder Bremen head coach Thomas Schaaf will be without highly-rated playmaker Mesut Oezil when the Hanseaten take on St. Pauli on Wednesday evening in the DFB Pokal, the club’s official website has confirmed.
The German international has been plagued by knee trouble since last week and has missed the Europa League match against Nacional and the Bundesliga game against Bayer Leverkusen due to the knock.
The 20-year-old will probably be replaced by Aaron Hunt or Philipp Bargfrede in midfield.
Danish midfielder Daniel Jensen is not yet fit enough to be part of the match squad after having just returned to regular training.
Werder Bremen won last year’s DFB Pokal after beating Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 in the final. Oezil was responsible for the match-winning goal in that game.
