Pay €20 Million And Cassano Is Yours – President Marotta

sampdoria_antonio_cassano_669718Sampdoria have made the perfect start to the 2009/10 Serie A season, as they have managed four wins from the first four fixtures, to sit atop of the table, alongside Juventus.

As always their star player, Antonio Cassano, has been one of the side’s key figures in their successes to date, as they have accounted for the likes of Catania, Udinese, Atalanta and Siena most recently.

Cassano has continually been linked to some of Italy’s strongest clubs, including Juventus and Inter over the past couple of years, since officially joining the Blucerchiati from Real Madrid back in 2007.

His future has been debated many times before; however the president of his club, Giuseppe Marotta, managed to clear things up a little in a recent interview.

“Antonio is player who gives us great emotions every Sunday,” Marotta declared on the Campionato dei Campioni program.

“What he does on the pitch is fantastic, and we are so thankful to have him.

“When he arrived on a free transfer from Real Madrid, we could afford him in the economy at the time.

“There have been some requests for him lately. I know that [the Inter president Massimo] Moratti is very interested in him, but there has never been any negotiations.

“Antonio has a buyout clause of around €20 million, so if a club were to be interested and were willing to pay this amount, then he can leave Genoa.

“Following that, we will be forced to pay Real Madrid around €5 million for compensation.”

Cassano and his Samp team-mates are gearing up for their midweek fixture against Fiorentina, at the Artemio Fracnhi stadium.
