Lionel Messi Set To Sign Barcelona Mega Deal

Lionel Messi is set to put pen-to-paper on a huge new contract with Barcelona that will see him commit to the club until 2016 and have a buy-out clause of €250 million, according to a report in Sport.

The Argentine will become the European champions’ best paid star when he inks the extension to his current deal on Friday, after talks finally bore fruit this week.

Messi’s current deal was not due to run out until 2014, but the club wanted to give him a pay rise after the incredible season he had last time out.

Interest from Italian giants Inter also helped persuade the Blaugrana hierarchy to open negotiations, and after several meetings with his father and agent, Jorge Messi, a deal has been reached.

The player has always stated that he wants to stay with Barcelona for his entire career and believes he owes them a huge debt of gratitude for saving his career with a course of medicine when he was a boy.

Many pundits have tipped Messi to be honoured this year as the world’s best player, and Pele has added his voice to that call by stating that he thinks the Barca star is the greatest footballing talent on the planet.
