Juventus Midfielder Claudio Marchisio Upset About Missed Chance

Marchisio385_464459aJuventus failed to get their Champions League campaign off to a winning start last night, as Bordeaux midfielder Jaroslav Plasil cancelled out Vincenzo Iaquinta’s opener to earn his side a 1-1 draw on a rain-drenched evening at the Stadio Olimpico.

“We missed a chance to start off well right away,” Claudio Marchisio bemoaned on Sky Sport Italia after the encounter.

“We faced a very physical team, with good players, particularly [Yoann] Gourcuff, and we were unable to come out on top, partly because of the pitch and partly because of tiredness after playing so many games, despite improving during the match after a poor start,” he added.
After the French champions’ leveller, Juve poured forward in an attempt to restore their lead and Marchisio wasted a golden opportunity to do just that when he thumped the ball against the crossbar from close range.

“I’m sorry, the ball was squirting away and I missed an easy goal,” concluded the 22-year-old.

Next up for the Bianconeri is a trip to the Allianz Arena to face German giants Bayern Munich on September 30.
