Iraq International Nashat Akram Crowned Asian Footballer Of The Year

The Twente midfielder has scooped up the International Football Awards prize for best Asian footballer.

Iraq international and Twente midfielder Nashat Akramhas been crowned Asian Footballer of the Year at theInternational Football Awards in London.

The International Football Awards were organised for the first time in history this year, giving millions of football fans from all over the world got the chance to nominate six players per category and vote for their favourite.

The 25-year-old Akram shrugged off competition from Tim Cahill (Everton/Australia), Park Ji-Sung (South Korea/Manchester United), Yossi Benayoun (Liverpool/Israel), Server Djeparov (Bunyodkor/Uzbekistan) and Yasser Al-Qahtani (Al-Hilal/Saudi Arabia).

Akram earned himself a transfer to Europe this summer after impressive performances with both Iraq and Al-Gharafa. He has made only two league appearances for Twente so far, but is widely expected to develop into an important first team.
