Spain qualified for the World Cup finals on Wednesday and their coach has been rewarded.

Vicente del Bosque has been rewarded for guiding Spainto the World Cup finals with an extension to his current contract that will see him continue in the role until 2012.

The 58-year-old took over from Luis Aragones just over a year ago and was given the remit of qualifying for the tournament in South Africa next summer.

With the pressure on after Spain’s triumph at the European Championships, Del Bosque exceeded expectations by overseeing a superb winning run in Group 5.

Victory over Estonia on Wednesday evening was Spain’s eighth win out of eight games in qualification as they eased through a group that looked set to cause them problems.

Del Bosque has stated that managing the national team will be his last coaching role, having previously had spells in charge of Real Madrid and Besiktas.

Despite this, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) are keen to ensure that their trainer does not consider stepping down after the World Cup finals.
