Capello Delighted With England’s World Cup Qualifying Rout Over Croatia

England Italian takes delight with his Englishmen.

Fabio Capello’s stern pre-match demeanour swiftly transformed into post-game cheer as he revelled with the press over England’s 5-1 triumph over contemporary rival Croatia. The result did not flatter the performance, as the Three Lions completely out-classed a side ranked as one of the ten best in the world, and the Italian who has been the catalyst for this renaissance declared Wednesday’s Wembley win as the best of the eight victories they have accumulated thus far during the qualification stage.

“I am very happy because the players trained well,” said Capello, at a press conference . “We played the best of the qualifying campaign.

“The England team always has expectation and we can play against any team in the world,” he added.

Capello particularly enjoyed the performance of Aaron Lennon, whose name will surely dominate the sports-pages of tomorrow’s newspapers for his scintillating performance down the right-flank. He noted: “I was sure he would be in the starting XI, and he played very well.

“We have time to prepare for the World Cup but I hope the players are free of injury.

“All the players are really good, particularly the free-scoring midfield,” enthused the national boss.

England have qualified for the World Cup in record-breaking fashion, having sealed their passage with two games to spare. They have amassed 24 points – seven clear of Croatia, who have also played a game extra.
