There has been lots of criticism towards the Italian national team, in regards to their performances attempting to qualify for next year’s World Cup in South Africa.

Currently, Italy leads Group 8 on 17 points with a game in hand, and victory over Bulgaria on Wednesday will just about secure a place for the reigning World Cup holders.

But coach Marcello Lippi says that it doesn’t matter how the side wins, but as long as they claim the three points.

“The match is the most important game since I returned to leading the national side because we can claim our qualification,” Lippi told Repubblica.it.

“Bulgaria is a quality team, but we do not fear anyone.

As for scoring goals, Lippi retorts that it doesn’t matter how they come, as long as they come, “including from [goalkeeper Gianluigi] Buffon’s head”.

“What is important is the result, and what we say between us.

“The rest does not interest me.”
