Wesley Sneijder Included In Netherlands Squad For Scotland Match

Sneijder222 Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder has been cleared of any injury and will be able to feature in Wednesday’s World Cup qualifier against Scotland for the Netherlands, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.

The playmaker suffered a knock to his ankle in the 3-0 friendly win over Japan on Saturday, and the injury appeared serious as he was immediately substituted off the field on a stretcher and taken to hospital.

However, the team doctors have indicated that the former Real Madrid star only suffered a “distortion” caused by stretching his right ankle and that there was no damage to the ligaments themselves.

Thus, coach Bert van Marwijk has included the Nerazzurri player in his list of call-ups to take on the Scots in Glasgow in midweek.

The Netherlands have already qualified for the World Cup in South Africa, earning a perfect record in qualifying thus far with seven victories, 11 points ahead of the second place Scots in Group 9.

Sneijder’s recovery is also a welcome boost for his club side, who have a high-profile match in the Champions League group stage against champions Barcelona next week.
