Barcelona sporting director Rafael Yuste insists that the Catalan club are in no hurry to offer coach Pep Guardiola an improved contract and that they will not be forced into negotiations with the Triplete-winning coach.

The Blaugrana have recently renewed the contracts of the majority of the backroom staff until the summer of 2011, with the exception of Guardiola and Tito Vilanova, his assistant coach.
However, Yuste discussed with COM Radio the progress of a new deal and stated, “Things have to be natural and we will not force any situation. It’s clear that I personally would like to renew, along with Tito [Vilanova], but the board do not want to pressure him.

“The continuity of [Pep] Guardiola at the club will depend on him, as he will always do what it best for him and the club.”

In addition, Yuste acknowledged recent comments from Guardiola that suggested the coach was dissatisfied with the depth of his squad that is embarking on another grueling campaign, and added that he too believes the side may have required one or two more new faces.

He said, “It is short. We strengthened the workforce and did not cut the staff. Now we must hope that we are lucky with injuries.”
