England’s Wayne Rooney Responds To Diving Claims

England striker Wayne Rooney has insisted he was fouled in yesterday’s 2-1 win over Slovenia despite claims he dived to win a penalty.
The striker was awarded a spot-kick after a tangle with defender Bostjan Cesar that left both players on the ground.

Whilst most commentators believed the award of the penalty was generous, several Slovenian players insisted after the game that Rooney had gone to ground too easily.
However, according to skysports.com, Rooney has informed Steven Gerrard that he was fouled and that his shirt was pulled.

“Wayne [Rooney] seems to think his shirt was pulled,” explained Gerrard.

“I asked him straight away if there was any contact, and he said he got dragged back.

“I didn’t get a good angle of it because I played the pass but Wayne said there was contact.”

Frank Lampard converted the penalty to give the Three Lions the lead in the match before Jermain Defoe sealed victory despite a late consolation strike by Zlatan Ljubijankic.
