Slovenian Players Accuse England Star Wayne Rooney Of Diving

The diving controversy continues to rear its ugly head, with Wayne Rooney being accused by Slovenian players of diving, following England’s 2-1 win on Saturday.

The Manchester United forward earned a contentious penalty when he went down in the box after tangling with Bostjan Cesar.

The decision has left Slovenian players furious, including West Bromwich Albion midfielder Robert Koren.

“There has been a lot of criticism about diving this week. In my opinion Rooney went down too easily,” said Koren, according to The Times. “Let’s see if he gets criticised.”

Slovenia’s goalkeeper, Samir Handanovic, argued that the former Everton star should have been booked for diving.

“They tangled for the ball and when he went down Rooney kicked Cesar,” said Handanovic.

“It was never a penalty, it was a foul to us and Rooney should have been shown a yellow card.”

Aleksander Radosavljevic attributed the referee’s decision to his country’s lesser reputation.

“That’s the price you pay for being a small nation,” he said. “We all saw Rooney tangling with Cesar. We have to live with it, but what is worse than the penalty is that Cesar is out for Wednesday’s game.”
