Sebastien Frey: I Was Close To Milan Move

The French goalkeeper could have been defending the Rossoneri’s goalposts was it not for the affection he has for the Viola club.

Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastien Frey admitted that he was on the verge of joining Milan at one point of his career, but in the end opted to remain in Florence thanks to the love they showed towards him.

Even though Frey does not mention when he could have joined the Rossoneri, it is most likely that it was last year when he was heavily linked to them.

However, following Frey’s refusal, Milan decided to trust Christian Abbiati in goal as the French goalkeeper remained with Fiorentina.

“I was very close to various clubs, but a lot to Milan,” declared the former Parma shot-stopper to the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“However, in the moment of truth, Fiorentina showed me affection and consideration, which I had not felt anywhere else.”

The 29-year-old goalkeeper has been at Fiorentina since 2005 and in total he played 128 league games, conceding 118 goals. Prior to that he spent four seasons with Parma following his move from Inter.
