Usain Bolt: My Pep Talk Helped Manchester United Back To Winning Ways

Triple Olympic gold medal holder Usain Bolt, who also recently won three golds at the World Athletics Championships, is taking credit for Manchester United’s riotous 5-0 victory over Wigan Athletic, claiming that his telephone conversation with club manager Sir Alex Ferguson prompted the Scot to pass on his wisdom to his players.

The talk followed United’s shock loss to Premier League new-boys Burnley, and Bolt told BBC Sport, “I made a call to Alex telling him that losing is not an option because I’ve been winning and he just talked to the guys to let them know to get it done.

“First of all I would like to say thank you guys for winning,” he said.

There has been much focus on how United will replace the goal-scoring exploits of Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Real Madrid for a world record sum of €94 million in the summer.

Stocky striker Wayne Rooney has been touted for a long-term central role, one he occupies for Fabio Capello in the England setup, and Bolt believes the powerhouse can lead the team to an unprecedented fourth successive Premier League crown.

“Wayne Rooney’s a great guy, he’s going to lead us to the championship this year for sure,” Bolt enthused.

“He’s the leader his year and I think he’s going to do a wonderful job,” concluded the 23-year-old Jamaican.
