David Beckham: England Can Win The World Cup Under Fabio Capello

The LA Galaxy midfielder thinks England have the right man to lead them to glory in South Africa.

England star David Beckham believes The Three Lions can win the World Cup in South Africa under the guidance of manager Fabio Capello.

England are near certainties to reach next summer’s showpiece after winning all seven of their of their Group Six Qualifiers so far and will indeed seal progression to South Africa with a victory over Croatia next week.

Before that Capello’s side have a friendly on Saturday against Slovenia at Wembley Stadium and the current feel-good factor going into the double-header is in stark contrast to the end of Steve McClaren’s reign, where defeat to the Croats saw England fail to qualify for a major international tournament for the first time since 1994.

Beckham, formerly captain of the national side, has heaped praise on the Italian’s work so far and spoken with confidence over his side’s chances in South Africa.

“He [Capello] has changed the mentality of the players,” he said to The Daily Mail. “The way the players prepare themselves, the way we spend the week together, is very serious, very concentrated.

“It’s working because we’re not just winning games, we’re together as a team. Even when we’ve come in at half-time and we’re not winning, there’s that spirit you can feel.

“That’s what the manager has done. He’s given players confidence.”

Beckham continued, “I believe that we’ve got a chance [in South Africa] if we play like we’ve been playing and have the togetherness that we’ve shown all the way through the qualifiers.

“You need a certain amount of luck along the way, of course, but we have got the players and we have got the team. Everything is set up right. It’s down to the players to perform.”
