Carra: Don’t Write Us Off Yet

C_71_article_1036949_image_list_image_list_item_0_imageJamie Carragher has told Liverpool’s critics not to write them off – because they are the No 1 comeback kings.

And he reckons the knockers have also got it wrong by slating Manchester United.

Carragher and his Liverpool team-mates were hammered after losing two of their first three league matches.

It was a familiar script at Bolton on Saturday as they twice fell behind before a late Steven Gerrard goal gave them a 3-2 win.

Rafa Benitez’s men pulled off the same trick several times last season – notably against United, Manchester City and Middlesbrough.

In fact they gained 22 points from losing positions last term, more than any of their Big Four rivals.

And defender Carragher, 31, reckons it shows the character that will be needed if they are to end their 20-year wait for the title.

He said: “We have taken a bit of criticism and rightly so because we haven’t made the best of starts.

“But no one can ever write us off. Ourselves and Manchester United, not just in this league but probably anywhere in the world, are the best at coming back from deficits and winning games.

“At Bolton, the lads showed what great character we have.

“It was so important to get those three points, especially with the international break coming up.”

Carragher formed a new defensive partnership with Sotirios Krgyiakos at the Reebok and admitted it was a tough start for the £2million signing.

Carra said: “He came in and did well for us. It was a baptism of fire as Bolton away is one of the toughest places to go.

“He won his aerial duels with Kevin Davies and he’s probably one of the most difficult opponents in the Premier League.”
