OFFICIAL: Anthony Mounier Completes Nice Move From Olympique Lyonnais

Anthony Mounier has completed a deal that saw him leave Olympique Lyonnais on transfer deadline day to join fellow Ligue 1 side Nice.

The 21-year-old, who rose through OL’s youth academy alongside the likes of Karim Benzema, had been touted for a move away from the seven-time French champions for much of the summer, having failed to establish himself as a first-team player, despite getting several attempts to do so.

A left-sided player of some promise, L’Equipe reports that Mounier has made the jump to the Stade du Ray for €2.5 million and has signed a four-year deal with les Aiglons.

Only ten days ago there were reports suggesting that this move was highly unlikely to be completed due to Nice’s decision not to release Loic Remy back to OL. Remy was sold by the Rhone Valley side to the south coast club last summer. With Nice, the 22-year-old forward proved to have more potential than Lyon gave him credit for, hitting double figures in league goals and earning a call-up to the French national side, all the while seeing his value more than double from €8 million to over €16m.

Mounier will be hoping to enjoy comparable success with Didier Olle-Nicolle’s side, who have started the season in an inauspicious manner, losing two of their opening four games, including a 4-0 defeat to Girondins de Bordeaux a fortnight ago and an embarrassing 3-0 trouncing by newly promoted Montpellier at home on Saturday.
