I Didn’t Deserve Red Card – Frederic Kanoute

Barcelona+v+Sevilla+La+Liga+Enz8Q1-sbIflSevilla striker Frederic Kanoute has insisted that he should not have been sent off during his side’s 2-0 defeat to Valencia at the Mestalla in their first game of the new Primera Liga season.

Second-half goals from Pablo Hernandez and Juan Mata did the damage against ten-man Sevilla, with Kanoute receiving his marching orders just before the break.

Kanoute told Super Deporte that he felt the second booking was not warranted while the first was just a question of poor timing.

“The first [yellow] card was a jump and I accidentally hit the opponent [Bruno]. It was an involuntary action,” insisted the Mali international.

“I don’t think the second was worthy of a card. I anticipated [Carlos] Marchena clearing the ball. It was him who caught me.”

Kanoute, who turns 32 on Wednesday, will now miss Sevilla’s next Primera Division fixture, a home tie against Real Zaragoza on September 13.
