Carrick Is Taking A Back Seat

carrick_280x390_877423aAlex Ferguson has warned Michael Carrick he will have to accept being left out of the Manchester United team this season.

The England midfielder looked to have become an integral part of United’s team last season.

But he has now been omitted from the entire squad for two of the first three league games at Birmingham and Wigan.

Fergie says he wants to push on the fast-improving Republic of Ireland ace Darron Gibson, 21.

The United chief claims Carrick’s absence has just been part of freshening the team up.

But, even so, it is unusual for the player to not even make the bench.

Fergie said: “We went to Burnley on Wednesday and played the Saturday before so it was a chance to freshen up at Wigan.

“We’d got back Darren Fletcher and Paul Scholes, who were fresh and hadn’t played against Burnley.

“What we’re also trying to do is push on Gibson as much as we can. The boy has improved at a rate of knots.”

Fergie also blasted Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington for claiming United defender Jonny Evans needed an ankle operation.

The United chief rapped: “It’s not his business. He doesn’t need an op.”
