Cheating Ed

Eduardo was branded a diver and a cheat last night by furious Celtic, who want the striker banned by UEFA.

Arsenal’s hitman conned ref Manuel Mejuto Gonzalez to win a penalty in his side’s Champions League play-off win.

Seething Celtic star Massimo Donati said: “If it’s clear on TV, then UEFA must act against Eduardo and ban him.

“I think he should get a two-match ban. It wasn’t a penalty. Everyone in the Celtic team told him.”

The Croatian collapsed in the box, despite TV replays showing zero contact as he tried to round keeper Artur Boruc.

Eduardo took the penalty to give Arsenal the lead, with second-half goals from Emmanuel Eboue and sub Andrey Arshavin sealing the tie.

Donati pulled a goal back right at the finish.

The Italian added: “Artur Boruc pulled away from the challenge. Sometimes people are not honest. Eduardo said nothing to us. He could say nothing.

“Other players have been banned and, if they think it is the same situation, Eduardo will probably be in trouble.”

UEFA has pledged to get tough on ‘simulation’ and Eduardo could face a disciplinary probe within days.

Lithuania’s Saulius Mikoliunas was hit with a two-match ban after diving to win a penalty against Scotland at Hampden in 2007.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger said: “I believe it was not a penalty but I’m not sure the keeper didn’t touch him with his right knee.

“Eduardo might have jumped out of the way as well. I don’t think he would have complained if the penalty was not given.

“I have never asked anyone to dive to win a penalty.

“I do not want a penalty which is not a penalty but I do not go as far as to say Eduardo dived.”
