Werder Bremen Closing In On Bordeaux Midfielder Menegazzo

6357440 Earlier this month a report emerged that Bundesliga side Werder Bremen were interested in signing Bordeaux midfielder Fernando Menegazzo and the Germans now appear to be closing in on the 28-year-old.

French newspaper L’Equipe claims that last year’s UEFA Cup finalists have already tabled a first offer for the Brazilian midfielder. The French champions weren’t impressed with Werder’s €4.5 million bid though, as they have set an €8 million asking price.

Bremen have been in the market for a new holding midfielder ever since Frank Baumann announced his retirement back in May, but they have been far from successful in their hunt so far. They did manage to lure Tim Borowski back to Bremen though after a disappointing adventure at Bayern Munich.

The midfielder’s current Bordeaux deal is due to expire in the summer of 2011, meaning that the reigning Ligue 1 champions won’t be in a rush to cash in on the eight-times capped Brazilian international. Bremen are expected to make a second offer for Menegazzo later this week.
