Inter Preparing €9m Swoop For Roma’s Julio Baptista

Batista As the Wesley Sneijder transfer appears to have collapsed, the Nerazzurri are targeting ‘the Beast’ to fill the trequartista role.

Inter coach Jose Mourinho is not ending his search for an attacking midfielder just yet, with Roma’s Julio Baptista next on his list after Wesley Sneijder snubbed the Italian champions in favour of remaining at Real Madrid.

There are good relations between Inter and Roma, and the Beneamata will hope to take advantage of these as they have done in the past in order to prise Cristian Chivu and Amantino Mancini away from the Eternal City.

According to
Il Corriere dello Sport, as long as there is no last minute u-turn from Sneijder, Inter will make a bid of around €8-9 million for ‘the Beast’. Honduran striker David Suazo could also be sent on loan to the Giallorossi to supplement the deal.

If Roma are to receive hard cash for the 27-year-old, who only joined the club last summer, they will want to push the transfer through as soon as possible.

Herminio Menendez, the agent of the player, has confirmed discussions are in progress.

“We are talking with Inter about his transfer,” Menendez told

“The formula could be that of a permanent transfer. As far as I know, the player has not spoken with the Roma directors.”

The Lupi have a Europa League tie on Thursday against Kosice, before meeting Juventus on Sunday, so time is tight if they wish to reinvest any transfer fee into their own squad.
