UAE Champs Al Ahli Want To Lure Pavel Nedved Out Of Retirement

PavelNedved_742163UAE champions Al Ahli are hopeful of luring Czech legend Pavel Nedved out of retirement.

The former Juventus midfielder has, according to reports in Dubai, been holding talks with the club ahead of the new season.

The 36-year-old was in the Gulf State last week as a special guest at a draw to set the schedule for the 2009-10 campaign.

It is reported that the Czech national team coach, Ivan Hasek, who led Al Ahli to the title last season before departing for home, has recommended the club to the veteran.

“I went to see Ahli because Ivan was there. I wanted to see where he worked,” said Nedved, according to local media.

“I enjoyed it a lot and was really impressed by the quality of infrastructure at the club. Hasek is a very good friend and I was very interested in knowing how he was doing.”

Hasek’s successor at the club, Ioan Andone, told the Italian media that Nedved joining his squad was a possibility.

“I wanted to bring to Adrian Cristea [of Dinamo Bucharest], but the club told me they have a surprise for me,” he said.

“Eventually he told me his plans, that the negotiations with Nedved were at an advanced stage. That Nedved was very interested because the offer was really good.”

Recently, Nedved has also been linked with moves to Notts County in England and the MLS (Major League Soccer) in the United States.
