Lyon’s Aly Cissokho: No International Choice Made Between France Or Senegal

Speaking ahead of Olympique Lyonnais’ Champions League clash with Anderlecht, the highly-regarded left-back has intimated that he has made no decision on his international future.

Regarded as one of the brightest young left-backs in Europe, Olympique Lyonnais’ Aly Cissokho has explained that he has not been forced to make a decision regarding his international future yet as the French management team have not approached him regarding a call-up as yet.

Despite being born in Blois, near the heart of France, the 21-year-old left-back could also represent Senegal on the international stage, although he has confessed to L’Equipe that he is not being pressed into a decision at the current time.

“For now, there is no choice,” he stated. “I’ve had no contact with the management team from France and I’ve not received any word. For now, I prefer to care for my club.”

His immediate future for OL will see him in Belgium on Wednesday evening for a Champions League play-off encounter against Anderlecht, who were downed 5-1 at the Stade Gerland in the first leg of the clash. While general manager Claude Puel and striker Bafetimbi Gomis have been rather cagey, despite the emphatic cushion, Cissokho is a little more matter-of-fact.

“We have made the difference in the first leg,” he asserted. “Theoretically, if we’re not idiots we will qualify.”

The Champions League was the competition in which Cissokho really burst into the consciousness of the European footballing public, as his thrilling displays for Porto against Manchester United saw him match up strongly against Cristiano Ronaldo.

He will hope to achieve such success in this year’s competition as Lyon aim for their tenth straight group stage qualification.
