OFFICIAL: Sylvinho Joins Manchester City On Year-Long Deal

sylvinho_barcelonaManchester City have today officially confirmed the signing of veteran Brazilian left-back Sylvinho on a one-year contract. The 35-year-old joins after his contract with Spanish champions Barcelona expired at the end of last season.

City manager Mark Hughes was delighted to welcome the defender to the club today, informing the club’s official website, “Sylvinho has a wealth of experience at the very top level, having represented Brazil and played for some of the very top clubs in Europe.

“When the chance presented itself to bring him to Manchester City as a free agent I saw it as representing excellent business for us. Sylvinho won the European Cup last season at Barcelona and he will strengthen our defensive options.”

The Brazilian has extensive Premier League experience, having played 55 times for Arsenal between 1999 and 2001. He has also won six caps for his country, and has collected three La Liga titles in a career which has also seen him play for Celta Vigo and Corinthians.

He will wear the number 16 shirt at Eastlands.
