Best Start For Hotspurs In 49 Years

defoe_280x390_873291aHarry Redknapp’s  Spurs delivered the club’s best league start for 49 years with a 2-1 win at West Ham.

Goals from Jermain Defoe and Aaron Lennon saw them go top of the Premier League.

Redknapp said: “Nine points is a great start for us. It was a difficult game but we showed a lot of character coming back from 1-0 down.

“We scored two great goals, even if we had a bit of help for the first.”

Carlton Cole put West Ham ahead before he gifted Defoe an equaliser.

Redknapp said: “Carlton Cole played well today but had a momentary blip – and that has cost them.”

Spurs’ victory means they have opened with three straight wins for the first time since 1960, when they won the Double under Bill Nicholson.

Redknapp added: “That was an amazing football team. If we are anywhere as good as them, we will be okay.”
